A city commission meeting at Springfield, Ohio went viral after video of residents complaining about the 20,000 Haitians who had invaded the city and trashed it became a major political talking point.

At the meeting, Anthony Harris, a local resident alleged that Haitians were, among other things, coming into parks and grabbing ducks by the neck, and then taking them off to eat them.

Memes quickly followed of Trump protecting ducks and cats from Haitian migrants. And what was a serious issue became a joke.

The media quickly went into defense mode and began denying that there were any “verified” reports of migrants eating pets and ducks. Media outlets also began promoting claims that the allegations were racist.

“This is the same old anti-Black playbook that we’ve seen for hundreds of years in Ohio being rolled out to divide and create hate, especially around election times,” said Erik Crew, staff attorney at the Haitian Bridge Alliance and a Cincinnati native with Springfield roots.

“White supremacist and antidemocratic movements have always used the claim that so-called Black savages are coming to destroy, especially when political power is up for grabs. This is no different. This time they are saying it is Haitians, and this time it is being used to try to score political points around immigration as well.”

Except the whole thing is coming from a black man. Not that the media tends to let a little thing like that stop its propagandists from doing their thing anyway.

Whether or not any housepets are being eaten, there’s nothing surprising about third-world migrants eating ducks, geese and swans in the park.

The national rollout of public parks was a noble progressive idea from the 19th century. When non-westerners show up and see ducks and geese waddling about, they see nothing wrong with taking them off to cook them. To them, it’s just food walking around. Ditto for swans.

As Harris said, it’s what they’re used to.

Whether Haitians are eating ducks in the park or not, the full town meeting shows pretty clearly that things are bad in Springfield, Ohio. Complaints about Haitians eating ducks and generally spreading havoc are not racist, unless Mr. Harris is a racist. The underlying issue is illegal mass migration and the abuse of the law to enable it.

TPS or Temporary Protected Status for Haitians is a longstanding problem.
