Two members of Congress have been personally attacked in D.C. in recent years. Kids are committing armed carjackings. And D.C. just recorded its 100th murder victim served.

But the media (of course) is insisting that the District is absolutely safe and there’s no need for intervention.

The media has kept insisting that crime is not a problem because crime is ‘falling’. The problem is that crime is falling from the record highs of the BLM year.

Crime is ‘down’ from 2020 when criminals were told that they could do anything they want with no consequences.

Between the winter and the BLM summer of 2020, the D.C. murder rate jumped from 12 to 16.

But crime is still really bad because for the most part criminals can still do whatever they want and the actual numbers that reduce crime, the number of criminals incarcerated, still lags badly.

If you believe the claims of D.C.’s Metro police (and there’s no great reason to believe it), then crime is down. There are plenty ways to massage the statistics to fake a decrease, but the numbers, even as given, are catastrophically high.

And leave no doubt whatsoever that there is a high rate of violent crime and a high level of risk of crime in D.C.

In 2024, Washington, D.C. saw a homicide rate of 27.3 per 100,000 residents. That was the fourth-highest homicide rate in the country — nearly six times higher than New York City and also higher than Atlanta, Chicago, and Compton. In 2012, the homicide rate in Washington, D.C. was just 13.9 per 100,000 residents.

There were 29,348 crimes reported in Washington, D.C. last year, including 3,469 violent offenses, 1,026 assaults with a dangerous weapon, 2,113 robberies, and 5,139 motor vehicle thefts.

This is not safe. This is what a violent criminal hellhole looks like.
