Congressman Adam Schiff was born into a Jewish family that fled the Holocaust. He made a career typical of a Jewish intellectual: Stanford University, a law degree from Harvard Law School, private legal practice, work in the prosecutor’s office, a political career in the state of California, and a photograph embracing then-Prime Minister Ehud Barak of Israel. But today Adam Schiff is acting, unfortunately, as an enemy of Israel, according to four criteria.

First, although Adam Schiff supported Israel’s right to defend itself after the Hamas massacre of Israeli civilians on October 7, he has co-sponsored a resolution asserting that both the Jewish state and the terrorist organization are equally responsible for sexual violence against women. Otherwise, according to Schiff, Israel, which purportedly oppresses Palestinians, is the guiltier party in the conflict.

Equating Israel and Hamas undermines the legitimacy of Israel’s war for survival against the radical Islamic terror ideology represented by Hamas, sponsored by Qatar, and supported in the House by Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) and Summer Lee (D-Pa.), who have long anti-Israel records, and Adam Schiff.

Second, Schiff advocates the establishment of a Palestinian state in spite of the undeniable and inevitable possibility that this state will turn into a Hamas state, either by elections as happened in January 2006, or by armed takeover as happened in Gaza in June 2007. What will Adam Schiff have to say for himself after the Palestinian state turns into Hamastan? Not surprisingly, liberal J Street proudly endorses him.

Third, Schiff’s endorsement of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA), has drawn significant criticism from the pro-Israel community. Whoever has even a minimal understanding of Middle Eastern politics knows very well that the deal, which aimed to curb Iran’s nuclear capabilities in exchange for sanctions relief, jeopardized Israel’s and Saudi Arabia’s security by empowering a hostile regime which constantly chants “Death to Israel, Death to America.” Schiff supported the appeasement of Iran, which emboldened its Mullah regime and encouraged it to continue undermining stability and security in the Arab world, supporting Hamas, and developing the A-bomb.

Fourth, Schiff is one of the most active pro-Armenian lobbyists, promoting Armenian initiatives and accusing their enemies of every possible sin. The website of the American Armenian lobbying organization ANCA, whose leaders openly propagate pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli narratives, closely monitors the activities of every acting American congress member. ANCA praises Adam Schiff as the best promoter of Armenian interests, both in historical policy and in the modern dissemination of negative labels. No doubt, Schiff knows very well that Armenia is the enemy of Azerbaijan, one of Israel’s best friends, but why bother?

Schiff has vigorously sought to perpetuate the Armenian occupation of sovereign Azerbaijani territory. He attacked Azerbaijanis, who experienced their own October 7th – the massacre in Khojaly – and fought against unrecognized Armenian militants who turned a part of Azerbaijani territory into a Gaza-like enclave.

Schiff cannot be unaware that Azerbaijan is currently Israel’s main ally in the South Caucasus, while Armenia – which Schiff supports so wholeheartedly – is Iran’s main ally in the region. Iran supplies arms to Armenia, just as it does to Hamas and Hezbollah. Last month, the Armenian Minister of Defense, Suren Papikyan, held a series of meetings with the military leadership of Iran: with Defense Minister Hatami and Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Bagheri. While Armenia strengthens its already close military cooperation with Iran, the aggressive and fundamentalist Iran constantly declares its readiness to strike Israel. In particular, Hatami, whom Papikyan met, has long threatened to wipe Israel off the face of the earth, and Bagheri threatens Israel that the countdown has begun.

The annual report of the U.S. Intelligence Community on global security threats states,

Iran will continue to threaten U.S. interests, allies, and influence in the Middle East and intends to entrench its emergent status as a regional power while minimizing threats to the regime and the risk of direct military conflict. Iran will seek to use the Gaza conflict to denounce Israel, decry its role in the region, and try to dissuade other Middle Eastern states from warming ties with Israel.

Surely Schiff is not unaware of this document, nor can he fail to understand that Iran is a threat. Armenia is one link in the chain, while other links are Iran under the ayatollahs, Assad’s Syria, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Therefore, it is not at all coincidental that Schiff, while accusing the state of Israel, which is fighting terrorism, promotes the interests of Iran.

With “friends” such as Adam Schiff, Israel is really in no need of enemies.
