I have always said that the former New York governor was a stone-cold sociopath, but this is still really something. And since Cuomo is trying to relaunch his career, it’s still unfortunately relevant.
A pair of state-employed writers began researching, outlining and drafting a book about Governor Andrew Cuomo’s pandemic response in late March 2020, weeks before New York’s harrowing first wave had passed, according to newly disclosed email records.
The two speechwriters – Jamie Malanowski and Tom Topousis – traded drafts of a “preface” on March 30, brainstormed about chapter headings on March 31, requested updated research from the governor’s office in April, and interviewed the health commissioner in early May, the emails show.
If two pros were working on it on March 30, 2020, it would have gotten started earlier. How much earlier? Who knows. But Cuomo would have run it by his staff, by an agent and probably by a publisher or two.
So it’s more likely to have gotten started in the middle of March at the very latest.
Remember we’re talking about a book that would be titled, “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic”.
The outbreak just began in New York at the beginning of March. Schools don’t close until the middle of the month. The death toll is still fairly light at this point.
And that’s apparently when Cuomo decides this would be a great topic for a book about how he beat the pandemic.
The death toll really starts kicking in as the book project gets underway.
I’ve said it before, but Cuomo is a monster. The lack of anything resembling human feeling, morality or conscience is horrifying even by the standards of a profession where those things are mostly noted for their absence. While lying for the cameras every day, Cuomo not only racked up a horrifying death toll by putting COVID patients into nursing homes, but had his speechwriters working on a book about how awesome he was. And the book about how he beat the pandemic began just as the pandemic deaths were taking off.
