After high-profile diplomatic visits by Secretary of State Blinken and Treasury Secretary Yellen, China has reciprocated in the most ‘China’ way possible.
Hackers linked to China breached email accounts at more than two dozen organizations including some U.S. government agencies, officials and Microsoft researchers said, part of a suspected cyber-espionage campaign to access data in sensitive computer networks.
The new penetration has prompted alarm among some officials and security researchers and is being viewed as part of an espionage campaign that potentially compromised valuable information belonging to the U.S. government, according to people familiar with the matter.
Clearly, more ‘high-level’ diplomacy is needed.
After three years of self-isolation by China, President Biden’s top aides are flying into Beijing throughout the summer to try to convince and cajole Chinese officials, including Xi Jinping, the nation’s leader, on building a new foundation for relations.
“I think there is a way to resolve, to establish a working relationship with China that benefits them and us,” Mr. Biden said in a CNN interview broadcast on Sunday, as Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen was ending her visit to Beijing.
Biden seems to have a relationship with China that benefits his family. We need one that benefits us.
China prefers a working relationship that benefits it and not us. And it has it. Why should it negotiate down?
The PRC keeps on escalating and we go right on appeasing. The only way to end this cycle is to establish meaningful deterrence or to withdraw into some sort of Fortress America.
There’s no Plan C here. No amount of diplomacy is going to dissuade China from attacking us unless it either feels some real pain or decides that it’s futile.
The status quo just consists of us appeasing China while ignoring its attacks on us. How’s that working out?
