Bob Rae is the current Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations. He has been serving since 2020. He has stated in support of Canada’s break with its longstanding stance on Israel at the UN, in voting for a Gaza ceasefire, that there are “limits to how far people can be pushed.”
No one can deny the hellishness of war. There were some 40 million civilian deaths during World War II, the deadliest war in history. Among them were children. While Rae discusses the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7, his focus is on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza — a crisis that was caused by Hamas. There is no mention by Ambassador Rae of the human shields used by Hamas, the Palestinian celebration of “martyrdom,” or the refusal of Muslim countries to take in Palestinian refugees. The collateral damage and consequences of this war are heaped on Israel’s back alone.
Israel’s war on Hamas is for its very survival as a Jewish state. The Canadian government refuses to acknowledge this. Hamas unequivocally states its intention to obliterate Israel in its written Covenant and proved with its barbarity on October 7 just how far it was and is willing to go in executing its plan.
One needs to consider the source when analyzing any situation. Ambassador Bob Rae has an extensive career history with the socialist-leaning New Democrat Party of Canada, which boasts of its “social democratic and democratic socialist traditions.” A decade ago, with an intent to “modernize,” the NDP voted “to take ‘socialism’ out of party constitution.” Rae was NDP premier of Ontario from 1990 to 1995, leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party from 1982 to 1996, and then went Liberal, serving as interim leader of the Liberal Party of Canada from 2011 to 2013. The NDP ran a so-called “peace” campaign calling upon Canada to “stop selling arms to Israel.” The publication Spring, “a magazine of socialist ideas in action,” published an article less than a month after the horrors of October 7, entitled “Mass movement for Palestinian solidarity forces NDP in the right direction.” The NDP is pro-Palestinian, and the Liberals have not been far off from such a stance. Trudeau’s appointment of Rae, a career NDPer, to serve as ambassador to the UN is telling. The Canadian Press now reports:
Canada voted in favour of a non-binding resolution at the United Nations on Tuesday that calls for “an immediate humanitarian ceasefire” between Israel and Hamas, in a move that broke with years of Canadian policy and shocked Jewish groups.
The vote at the UN General Assembly represents a shift in Canada’s long-standing position of siding with Israel on major resolutions at the international body and arguing the Jewish state is unfairly called out in global forums.
The Liberals say the carnage in the Gaza Strip led Canada to change tack.
“We must recognize that what is unfolding before our eyes will only enhance the cycle of violence,” Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly said Tuesday on Parliament Hill.
The decision of the Liberals to formally support the UN resolution for ceasefire follows upon a visit to Canada this week by Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riyad Al Maliki and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who were on a mission to to “speak on behalf of Muslim people” and rally support for a ceasefire. Also in attendance was Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. These representatives from the virulently antisemitic Palestinian Authority and Turkey, which seek to destroy Israel, were warmly embraced by Melanie Joly and Justin Trudeau. The visit was covered on Jihad Watch. An excerpt:
Merely ten days after Hamas’ barbaric attack on Israeli citizens, which Hamas calls Operation Al Aqsa Flood, the Palestinian Authority announced that it would “give Hamas terrorists’ families close to $3m in ‘pay-for-slay.’” “In the current pay-for-slay system, called the “Martyrs’ Fund” by the PA, terrorists receive monetary payments as a reward for acts of terror.” As for Turkey (a foremost global peddler of the “Islamophobia” subterfuge), its President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the “butcher of Gaza,” and demanded that he be tried as a “war criminal.” Erdogan also declared that Israel is a “terrorist state” and Hamas is a “political party.” Speaking at a pro-Hamas “Great Palestine Rally,” Erdogan threatened Israel: “We can come at any night unexpectedly”; while the massive crowd chanted “Turkish military to Gaza.” Erdogan has also called Hamas “a group of mujahideen fighting to protect their lands.” Well, Hamas did descend on Israeli citizens “unexpectedly,” and now Erdogan threatens Israel anew.
The National Post stated of the visit “Mélanie Joly embarrasses herself“ : “Her constantly shifting positions on Israel’s war with Hamas terrorists in Gaza are either evidence of her going rogue, being completely unaware of what the government’s policy is or that she really does think that the “ceasefire-now, Hamas are freedom fighters” faction of the left is the Liberals’ most important constituency.”
On November 16, the Canadian Press quoted Bob Rae as stating: “We consider it essential that the international community speak clearly in condemning this terrorism by Hamas,” The UN “rejected any push to call out ‘deliberate cruelty’ of Hamas attacks.” As Bob Rae represents the Liberal Government of Canada, he now states in defense of Canada’s decision to vote for a ceasefire at the UN that there are “limits to how far people can be pushed,” with reference to the Palestinians. Such words are more appropriate in reference to Israel, the world’s only Jewish state, which was violated in the worst way imaginable on October 7 and cannot risk such an attack or an even worse one happening again. The current Canadian government has drawn a line in the sand.
The writing has long been on the wall, as explained HERE. And in August 2022, an incident that disappeared quickly from media reports showed just how ‘tolerant’ the Trudeau government can sometimes be. Laith Marouf, a government-funded Muslim “anti-racism” representative, stated on X:
“Life is too short for shoes with laces, or for entertaining Jewish White Supremacists with anything but a bullet to the head.”
In another, he refers to so-called “Jewish White Supremacists” as “loud mouthed bags of human feces,” adding that if Palestine is “liberated,” they will “return to being low voiced b*tches of their Christian/Secular White Supremacist Masters.”
Despite the Liberals’ expression of regret after the embarrassment of having the incident blow wide open in media, it emerged that Canada’s Diversity Minister Ahmed Hussen was warned about Marouf’s anti-Semitic tweets before the news broke. Robert Spencer stated only a day before the report: “Laith Marouf has been seething with open hatred for Jews and others for years. If the Trudeau government only just found this out, it’s criminally negligent. If it knew all along and didn’t care until there was a public furor, it’s something worse than that.”
In 2019, Canada not only broke ranks with tradition to support Palestinian interests at the UN, but it went on to install an “Islamophobia Czar” who served as communications director for the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), formerly CAIR-CAN — an offshoot of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
There is a history and consistency with the Canadian government, amid its obscene moral equivalence about caring for both Palestinians and Israelis. This week’s welcome of Palestinian Authority and Turkish leaders to “speak on behalf of ‘Muslim people” is more of the same. In light of all that, Canada’s vote is no surprise.
