Why is the California Highway Patrol following Kamala on her book tour at a cost of millions to taxpayers? Well California’s political elite get to do whatever they want at public expense. And sure, Kamala and her hubby are quite wealthy, but why should they pay for security when they can bleed the taxpayers some more instead?

Inside, they were serving a custom “Madam VP” cocktail: gin, cassis, cardamom, lemon and honey. Outside, a street vendor set up with leftover “She Can Do It!” T-shirts in a wide selection of sizes and colors.

Outside the venue, a collection of bouncers boosted the on-loan California officers by rearranging bike racks, trash boxes, a flowerpot and a few stacks of collapsed beer boxes borrowed from the busboys at the restaurant next door. They were trying to set up some sort of protected path to her car.

The ‘on loan’ officers would appear to be the CHiPs guys.

Last Friday, law enforcement sources told the LA Times that Former Vice President Kamala Harris will receive protection from the California Highway Patrol.

The unit is responsible for security for the governor, the first family, and other constitutional state leaders. It also protects visiting dignitaries and heads of state as they travel in California.

According to the Legislative Analyst’s Office, the CHP’s overall budget is around $3.2 billion.

The last reported budget for the Protective Services Division was $43 million in 2009. It’s almost certainly grown since then.

So California is spending unknown tens of millions of dollars protecting Gov. Newsom, unknown California Dem leaders and now apparently going on tour with Kamala nationwide.
