According to some polls at least, ‘Pete’ Buttigieg, the failed mayor of South Bend and failed Secretary of Transportation, is the frontrunner for the 2028 nomination. Buttigieg’s only real asset, apart from some die-hard donors who believe making him president will be an Obama moment, is his slickness when answering questions. It’s what kept him around in the debate. But when he was asked about Israel, Buttigieg tried to play that same game, comparing Israel to a “friend” who needs “direction”. The Left wouldn’t stand for anything short of a declaration that Buttigieg was anti-Israel.
And he gave it to them.
Buttigieg announcing that he’s for an arms embargo on Israel and he would recognize an Islamic terrorist state in Israel.
That’s not surprising since the last time he ran, Buttigieg had endorsed ending aid to Israel. The media is making this seem like a big win and a pivot to build momentum for a fundamental anti-Israel shift by the Democrats.
In his foreign policy address, he falsely claimed that “the Netanyahu government is turning away from peace” and warned Israel, while, referring to himself in the third person, that “President Buttigieg would take steps to ensure that American taxpayers won’t help foot the bill.”
But there’s no question that the shift is underway. Most Senate Dems voted for an arms embargo on Israel. Pro-Israel voices among Democrats have virtually gone silent. The Left has shifted the Dems into their radical positions on so many other issues and is doing it also when it comes to the Jewish State. And no matter how many anti-Israel positions, the Dems adopt, it’s never enough.
