State of the Union addresses come with interruptions these days and it’s hard to think of one that deserved interrupting more than this one.
We’re a long way from the “you lie” era. Biden’s speech, as I wrote in my article, was a massive deviation from normal SOTU protocol. It was an ugly campaign speech filled with attacks on Trump and Republicans.
Biden was however prepared for some shouts, but not others. He wasn’t prepared to be shouted at by the parents of a Gold Star Marine murdered in Afghanistan. He was however prepared to be confronted about the murder of Laken Riley, a young woman brutally slain by an illegal alien invader. And the deviation was revealing.
Biden was interrupted here by GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who shouted at him about Laken Riley, the Georgia nursing student killed, allegedly by an undocumented immigrant. It’s an incident that has driven claims that migrants are criminals.
Biden picked up a pin that read “Say Her Name Laken Riley” and directly addressed the parents of Laken Riley, who had been invited to the speech by a congressman.
“Lincoln (sic) Riley, an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal. That’s right. But how many of the thousands of people being killed by illegals – to her parents, I say my heart goes out to you. Having lost children myself, I understand.”
This was obviously both prepared and off the cuff. It’s also revealing because the SOTU address was all framed in terms of contemporary political discourse. “I will not demonize immigrants saying they “poison the blood of our country” as he said in his own words,” Biden read off. And yet in the Laken Riley moment, Biden calls them “illegals” and mentions that she’s not the only one who was killed by illegal aliens.
The Left is attacking Biden over it. I find it infuriating because it’s political hypocrisy.
Some lefties genuinely believe the things they’re saying, Biden doesn’t. Caught off guard he defaults to talking about illegal aliens. He doesn’t actually believe that an open border will make America better. And he knows perfectly well that illegal alien crime is a serious problem. He’s keeping the border open even though he knows it’s a disaster because it’s what the party and what the movement want of him. And that’s the price of power.
Biden outsourced much of his administration to the Left to gain power. People are complaining that Biden betrayed Israel once the pressure mounted. Of course, he did. Betrayal Israel? The man betrayed America.
The Biden of 2024 has thrown out some 70% of the political views he used to have because they became politically inconvenient. People can argue about senility and dementia, but he knows enough to be able to mention that illegal aliens are killing Americans while doubling down on the policies that allow them to do it.
