Media outlets had been hyping a proposed Biden executive order reducing asylum by illegal migrants for weeks leading up to his trip to the border.

The executive order, proposed by some in the Biden administration, had gone far enough to be evaluated by the Office of Legal Counsel and should have been announced at the border trip. It would not have fixed the problem, but it might have reduced the scope a little bit.

Instead, the Biden administration apparently calculated that it wouldn’t receive enough credit for the order to compensate for the backlash and the legal battles with leftist open borders groups, and that it would undermine the administration’s larger message that it’s helpless to act unless Congress passes some sort of amnesty deal like the Senate border agreement that has been DOA in the House.

Biden obviously doesn’t intend to close or secure the border. An executive order would have been a band-aid, but it would have been something. Instead, Biden wants to keep the border open and pass the blame.

The existence of the proposed executive order makes it clear that Biden can take unilateral actions. Instead, he keeps insisting that he can’t do anything unless Congress passes a bill. Trump showed that you can take at least some steps without Congress. Biden isn’t helpless, he’s choosing to be.

Instead of signing the executive order, Biden’s ‘border’ visit had him make a pitch the Senate border amnesty, which he falsely called the “toughest, most efficient, most effective border security in this country has ever seen” even though it does nothing except speed up the processing of the invaders.

“Instead of playing politics with the issue, why don’t we just get together and get it done?” Biden asked.

If Biden hadn’t been playing politics, he could have signed the executive order his own people had proposed.
