At what point does this just become domestic terrorism?
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is considering downsizing its detention capacity and releasing thousands of migrants from custody due to a budget shortfall that Congress has so far refused to address, a senior agency official told CBS News Wednesday.
Without sufficient funding, officials could be forced to release between 4,000 and 6,000 migrants from long-term immigration detention centers, according to the official, who requested anonymity to discuss internal cost-saving plans.
“Cost-saving plans”.
There would be zero problems getting the House to vote on funding for maintaining or increasing detention capacity. Instead, the Biden admin and Senate Dems insisted on yoking it to a foreign aid bill and then turning the immigration component of it into a witches brew of giveaways that included legalizing every Afghan whom Biden brought to America, providing work permits to illegal alien invaders and continuing to release them into the country. Some argued that it was better than nothing and some that it was worse than nothing.
If the Biden admin wants detention funding, it can get it anytime Congress is in session.
But the Biden administration doesn’t actually want detention funding and is now actively trying to cause more damage by freeing even the few invaders it has in custody.
4,000 to 6,000 migrants is a few days worth.
In a statement to CBS News, Erin Heeter, a DHS spokesperson, warned that a “reduction in ICE operations would significantly harm border security, national security, and public safety.”
“The Administration has repeatedly requested additional resources for DHS’s vital missions on the southwest border and Congress has chronically underfunded them,” Heeter said. “Most recently, Congress rejected the bipartisan national security bill out of hand, which will put at risk DHS’s current removal operations, put further strain on our already overtaxed workforce, and make it harder to catch fentanyl at ports of entry.”
Considering that a key role for ICE now is transporting illegal alien invaders into America, I can’t see that defunding it would be worse than the current situation. Let Texas and a few other state guards patrol the border and try to keep invaders out.
Heeter, incidentally, was a former DSCC assistant.
The budget shortfall also threatens to undermine ICE’s efforts to deport migrants who do not ask for asylum or who are found ineligible for U.S. refuge — a pillar of the Biden administration strategy to reduce the record levels of unlawful border crossings reported over the past years.
Every migrant now knows to ask for asylum and invaders are released and then quickly go to sanctuary cities.
The Biden administration deported 142,000 in 2023. There were nearly a quarter of a million invasions in just Dec 2023 alone.
