NextImg:Awaiting Trump, Memphis Laughs at Biden DOJ Intimidation

The Biden administration is predictably trying to do as much damage as it can before it has to leave. Every agency and government arm is filled to the brim with radicals who are venting their hatred and trying to set policy. But in a heartwarming turn of affairs, Memphis decided to respond to a DOJ pressure campaign to sign an anti-police and pro-crime ‘consent decree’ by effectively saying that the city is going to wait for Trump.

The Justice Department should not be in the business of investigating local police anyway. That’s a state matter. Jim Crow is long since in the rearview mirror and unwinding the DOJ’s civil rights ‘oversight’ that effectively federalizes anything and everything over claims of civil rights violations should be a major priority.

Since the Obama era, the DOJ’s civil rights division was used to implement a BLM agenda and shut down law enforcement. Forcing cities and states to sign ‘consent decrees’ is a form of federal blackmail that also ought to disappear. But there has been a rash of these fake investigations, findings of discrimination, and demands that cities sign ‘consent decrees’ that effectively allow the DOJ to own their souls.

Usually, the DOJ gets its way, but Memphis decided to respond to DOJ demands with ‘we’ll talk to the new boss’.

The Justice Department said the investigation began after allegations by citizens of excessive police force, force against people who are already restrained, and traffic enforcement that may be targeting black drivers for minor citations.

“May be.”

The government stepped in after now-former Memphis officers were caught on video beating 29-year-old Tyre Nichols, who later died. Those officers faced state and federal charges and the city faces a $550 million lawsuit.

The officers who beat Nichols were black.

The mayor of Memphis is black.

The police chief is black.

The majority of the Memphis police force is black.

There is no racial discrimination here against black people. The DOJ has no legal authority here. Its investigation is a joke. And Memphis decided to treat it like one. It took a black city government to tell the DOJ’s civil rights stasi to finally take a hike.

The city’s chief legal officer says Memphis will not enter into a consent decree over police reform with the Department of Justice, until the city has had time to review the agency’s report.

The city’s response, sent by City Attorney Tannera George Gibson to the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division was sent Wednesday, following a request by DOJ for the city to enter an agreement.

“After evaluating the effects of these consent decrees in other cities, we believe there are better ways to reimagine policing that do not slow the process or cost the taxpayers millions of dollars,” the letter stated. “Until the City has had the opportunity to review, analyze, and challenge the specific allegations that support your forthcoming findings report, the City cannot—and will not—agree to work toward or enter into a consent decree that will likely be in place for years to come and will cost the residents of Memphis hundreds of millions of dollars.”

How long is Memphis going to ‘review’ the report? I’m going to guess until at least Jan 20th.
