August is almost over and Chicago has racked up 196 people shot over August. Anyone want to bet it’s going to go over 200 by Labor Day weekend?
For a point of comparison, 23 people were shot and 6 people were killed last weekend.
According to Gov. Pritzker though, it’s not an emergency and everything’s fine.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is doubling down on his message to President Donald Trump that the nation’s third-largest city doesn’t need or want military intervention to fight crime, showing off parts of the city where violent crime has decreased and saying sending in the National Guard could only escalate problems.
“We want to make sure and show off that there’s no emergency happening in Chicago,” the Democrat told The Associated Press
“We’ve been fighting crime. We’ve been trying to prevent crime and it’s been working.”
Chicago is up to 1,301 people shot so far in 2025 and 281 murders.
If that’s not an emergency, what is?
