In Kansas City, Hunter Simoncic, 26, was killed when a fleeing driver struck him as he deployed stop sticks. The driver, Dennis Mitchell III, 31, faces capital murder. Mitchell had stolen two trucks; the chase began after shots were fired. Simoncic joined the KCKPD in 2023 and held degrees. His funeral is set for Sept. 3.
