GB News: Britain's lost Roman history to be unearthed after 2,000 years in 'groundbreaking' archaeology project
A new archaeology project titled "Romans Unearthed: Suffolk's Hidden Villas" aims to explore dozens of ancient Roman villa sites across Suffolk, revealing insights into the region's history post-Boudica's rebellion in 60 AD. With support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the initiative will involve community volunteers and modern excavation techniques.
Only four of the estimated 65 villa sites have been thoroughly excavated, leaving many at risk due to agricultural activities. The project seeks to enhance and digitize Suffolk's archaeological archives, building on the work of pioneer Basil Brown, who famously uncovered the Sutton Hoo hoard.
