Liberty Nation: Palace Intrigue: Impeachment and Media Games
The American public is captivated by political scandal as Rep. Adam Schiff faces a censure vote and Alejandro Mayorkas undergoes an investigation and possible impeachment. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna introduced measures to censure and fine Schiff for “misrepresentations and abuses of sensitive information,” while Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden. Additionally, an impeachment of appointed officials such as Mayorkas and Secretary of State Antony Blinken is being considered by the House, with potential for contempt charges. Impeachment and threats of such appear to be tools from which lawmakers may choose, sometimes more for the purpose of publicity or media attention than for actual expulsion or imposition of fines.

The Federalist: WI Reps: We'll Withhold Funds From Trans 'Sanctuary' County
Dane County in Wisconsin is set to pass a resolution to make the region a sanctuary for trans and nonbinary individuals. However, some Wisconsin state representatives are threatening to use the power of the purse against Dane County if the resolution goes through. If the resolution passes, the Dane County sheriff will downplay enforcement of any legislation designed to protect children from chemically castrating wrong-sex hormones, puberty blockers or mutilative surgeries, as access to so-called gender-affirming drugs and surgeries is a "fundamental right" for all, including children. The resolution implies that other damaging aspects of the trans agenda should be codified in Dane County, but state representatives from Wisconsin are threatening to pull funding if such legislation goes ahead.
Fox News: Couple shocks sister-in-law by making their pets 'flower girl' and 'ring bearer' in place of children
An anonymous Reddit user posed the question of whether it was wrong to have her dog and cat take on the roles of flower girl and ringbearer, respectively, instead of her sister-in-law’s 4-year-old twins. The sister-in-law questioned why the animals were given the roles instead of the children, to which the Reddit user responded that her fiancé was supportive of their pets’ involvement. The post received over 9,200 upvotes and members of the forum voted that the Reddit user is not in the wrong for wanting to include her pets in the wedding.
The Epoch Times: Six African Nations Criticise Hunting Trophy Ban and Plan for 'Beggar-Like Dependency'
A coalition of African nations has criticized the UK government’s imminent ban on the import of hunting trophies. The Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill, which would prohibit the importation of body parts from species such as lions, rhinos and elephants, was debated in the House of Commons in March and is expected to win approval if debated by the House of Lords. The high commissioners of South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia and the Zimbabwean ambassador have written an open letter to The Times newspaper objecting to the ban, which they claim would undermine incentives for local communities to protect wildlife habitats.

National Review: The Corner: A Voice for Iran
Actress and activist Nazanin Boniadi campaigns for human rights in Iran, her birthplace. Although the risks of activism are high, she believes they are minimal in comparison to what activists face in Iran. Despite criticism of those who criticize the Iranian government by Iranians living abroad, Boniadi points out that the slogan of Iranian protesters is "Our enemy is right here. You lie that it's America." The dictatorship, not the people, is in trouble when the people lose fear. Boniadi believes our fates are interconnected, insisting we should never take our freedoms for granted.

The Epoch Times: Stocks Slip as ECB Prepares Hike After Hawkish Fed Pause
World stocks slip as traders prepare for potential rate hike from the European Central Bank. US and German bond yields have reached their highest levels since March, while blue-chips in London, Paris, and Frankfurt dipped by around 0.2%. The predicted ECB hike would take eurozone rates to a two-decade high of 3.5%, but traders speculate an additional hike could come in September if financial conditions don't become too restrictive. Elsewhere, China's central bank has cut another key policy rate while the Bank of Japan looks likely to stick with its ultra-easy monetary policy.
Forbes: Shell Joins Fellow Majors In Refocus On Core Oil And Gas Business
After years of prioritizing green investments, Shell and other major oil companies are refocusing on their core businesses of producing, refining, and selling oil and gas. This shift comes amid rising commodity prices, supply chain constraints, economic instability, and skepticism towards the viability of green alternatives. While the majors will not abandon their green ventures altogether, these projects will come under increased scrutiny related to profitability and competition with industry peers. Many believe that this retrenchment is a short-term phenomenon, dependent on the outcomes of future elections and geopolitical developments.
Former Shell CEO Ben van Beurden announced a plan to reduce production by 1-2% per year through 2030 in response to pressure from governments, ESG investors, and cooperative media to push for the energy transition. However, after BP's profits lagged behind competitors in 2022, BP CEO Bernard Looney announced a major effort to increase investor returns by redirecting billions in capital towards raising its own equity oil and gas production. Both Shell and BP will continue investing in green ventures, but these projects will need to meet higher profitability thresholds as investors and companies refocus on the bottom line. This de-emphasis on climate change and ESG was also evident at the annual meetings of these companies, where shareholder initiatives on ESG received a fraction of support compared to previous years.
The Epoch Times: Oil up on Strong China Refinery Data
Oil prices rose on Thursday as China's oil refinery throughput in May increased 15.4% from the previous year. Brent crude futures increased by 1.15% to $74.04 a barrel, while US WTI crude rose 1.13% to $69.04 a barrel. While China's crude oil imports rose to the highest levels in April and refinery runs fell slightly, Chinese demand for oil is still viewed as set to rise in H2 2018. However, a weak economic outlook in the US and Europe, and concerns about increased interest rates lagging economies, put limits on the increase.
The Epoch Times: Dollar Ekes out Gain After Fed Hike Hint; Yen Slips
The US dollar strengthened after the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged but signaled further rate hikes to come this year. The market’s attention is now turning to other central bank decisions, including the European Central Bank policy announcement and the Bank of Japan's decision. The yen plunged as much as 1 percent to 141.50 per dollar, and the kiwi dollar sank 0.6 percent to $0.6172 after data showed New Zealand’s economy slipped into a technical recession in the first quarter. China’s offshore yuan touched 7.1916 per dollar, the weakest since November, after the People’s Bank of China cut the borrowing cost of its medium-term policy loans for the first time in 10 months.

Liberty Nation: Gun Control Doesn’t Work, and California’s Homicides Prove It
California's Governor Gavin Newsom proposed a 28th amendment to the US Constitution aiming at implementing "common sense" gun control laws, defending the state's below-average per capita firearms murder rate in comparison to other states. However, the strict gun control laws have failed to protect the law-abiding citizens of California. According to Breitbart's Second Amendment columnist and the CDC, more than 17% of the annual firearm murders in the United States occur in gun-controlled California, despite having the most gun control laws in the nation. The per capita rate may give the impression that California is safer than other states for gun violence; however, it is not.

Fox News: Sweden vows to crack down on organized crime as gangs grow to 'breathtaking' numbers
Sweden's justice minister has stated that as many as 30,000 people in Sweden are involved in criminal networks, with deadly firearm violence increasing dramatically. The probe into organizing a conviction of more criminals should be completed by September 2024. The country, home to 10 million people, has had increasing issues with drive-by shootings, bombings, and grenade attacks, leading the center-right government to vow to tackle this gang-related crime by tightening laws.
Fox News: Appeals court denies bail for self-exiled Chinese businessman awaiting fraud trial
Guo Wengui, a Chinese businessman awaiting trial in a $1 billion fraud case, has been denied bail by an appeals court in Manhattan. Guo's lawyers failed to overturn a previous decision that he could pose a flight risk or harm the community if he were released on the proposed $25 million bail. Guo, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of wire and securities fraud, is accused of fleecing thousands of investors in fraudulent schemes from which he purchased extravagant goods and assets. The case has received attention due to Guo's previous status as one of China's richest individuals, his relationship with former President Donald Trump's strategist Steve Bannon, and his public criticisms of the Chinese Communist Party.

Despite the NFL's rules prohibiting players from endorsing alcoholic beverages, Coors Light has found innovative ways to work with Mahomes in their ad campaigns.

He is survived by his six children.
Forbes: FC Barcelona Financially ‘Worse Off Than Two-And-A-Half Years Ago’, Members At Risk Of Losing Control: Font
Ex-presidential candidate Victor Font claims that FC Barcelona is in a worse economic state now than two-and-a-half years ago under current leader Joan Laporta. Font lashed out at Laporta's claims that he saved the club "from financial ruin," citing higher expenses, losses, less equity, and more debt. The lack of transparency in Laporta's decision-making was also criticized while highlighting the missed opportunities in letting Lionel Messi walk on a free transfer and not facilitating his second stint. The move to Montjuic is also deemed as not optimistic due to the ordinary business's losses of €1bn in two-and-a-half years.
Fox News: Nationals manager brings photo evidence to press conference after controversial call costs team game
Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez contested the umpires' decision after the team's loss to the Houston Astros due to a controversial call at the bottom of the ninth inning. Astros Jake Meyers grounded the ball to shortstop C.J. Abrams, who threw it home for the second out. Catcher Keibert Ruiz tried to turn the double play but his throw went off Meyers' helmet, allowing Astros slugger Jose Abreu to score. Martinez argued that Meyers was out of the baseline, but the umpires denied his appeal.
Forbes: FC Barcelona Reportedly Put Star Player Up For Sale With $87 Million Price Tag
FC Barcelona has reportedly placed an €80 million price tag on star player Jules Kounde, who has been made to fill in at right back despite his undoubted pedigree as a center back. Despite helping the team achieve its first La Liga title under coach Xavi Hernandez, Kounde had expressed openness to offers from other clubs, prompting Barca's president Joan Laporta to put him on the market in a bid to balance Financial Fair Play. The club has other incoming options for central defense, including Inigo Martinez and 18-year-old Mikayil Faye, for whom they have agreed to a €5 million fee.
