Fox News: TX Gov. Greg Abbott names John Scott as temporary attorney general following Ken Paxton's historic impeachment
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed John Scott as the state's attorney general on an interim basis following Ken Paxton's impeachment on allegations of misconduct and crimes. Scott, who oversaw Texas' elections in 2022, has been a longtime ally of Abbott and previously served as a state litigator when Abbott was attorney general. The trial is set to begin no later than August 28, with Texas' senators to serve as "jurors" in Paxton's upcoming trial.
Paxton, who has won three statewide attorney general's races, weathered years of scandal and criticism before being impeached by the Texas House of Representatives following a monthslong investigation resulting in 20 charges alleging obstruction of justice, bribery and abuse of public trust, among others. He has criticized the impeachment as an attempt to "overthrow the will of the people and disenfranchise the voters of our state."

Fox News: New York congressman introduces legislation to pull federal funding for colleges that promote antisemitism
Republican Congressman Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., will introduce legislation to prohibit universities that "authorize antisemitic events on campus" from participating in student loan and grant programs. Lawler's bill, the ‘‘Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act’’, was proposed in response to a recent controversial CUNY Law School commencement speech, where the speaker, student Fatima Mousa Mohammed accused the U.S. military and Israel of "indiscriminate" murder, and asked students to join a "revolution" against Zionism, capitalism and racism. Lawler is calling for CUNY to "face stiff penalties if they continue to let hate have a home" through his bill, which would amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to add that an institution cannot "authorize, facilitate, provide funding for, or otherwise support" antisemitism.
The Anti-Defamation League of New York and New Jersey tweeted, "We are appalled to see such an egregious display of hostility toward ‘Zionists’ and Israel in CUNY Law’s commencement address." The pro-Israel American campus group tracked 18 incidents since 2015 on CUNY law school campus where students or faculty spoke out against Israel. Lawler added that "No college or university should receive a single dollar of federal education funding if they peddle in the promotion of antisemitism at an event on their campus." Lawler claims that CUNY should "be ashamed of itself for allowing this ridiculous antisemitism to permeate on its campus," and that "stopping antisemitism dead in its tracks is critical for supporting our Jewish communities in New York."

Later videos and photos showed the destruction of Russian Army equipment. In another message, they urged Russian military forces to surrender to Ukraine's official hotline, where they are guaranteed detention, food, medical care, and regular contact with home.

Michael McMahon, Zheng Congying, and Zhu Yong are on trial for their connection to a conspiracy to intimidate and harass a former Chinese official and his family to return to China through "Operation Fox Hunt." The defendants claim their involvement was to collect a private debt, not act as illegal agents for China. The trial comes amid growing tensions between China and the U.S., with the latter accusing China of transnational repression. The geopolitical backdrop is present throughout the case and may influence the jury's decision.
Foreign Policy: In Sudan, Egypt Faces a Catch-22
Sudan is on the brink of a civil war between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. Egypt, which has not backed either military, is in a bind and has limited strategic options to respond. Its choices include: militarily backing the SAF, militarily backing the RSF, doing nothing, supporting a cease-fire, and taking the side of the civilian parties. Egypt’s only option to bring stability is to become the champion of Sudan’s democratic parties and demand their inclusion in future negotiations, offering a hard compromise to prevent future hostilities.

The Epoch Times: Japan Is Back, yet Still Far From Its Old Days
Japan's recent stock market growth is driving its emergence as the new tech-cum-financial center in Asia, fueled by external forces such as the loss of Hong Kong's international financial status and Japan's establishment as a semiconductor hub. However, internal drivers of sustainable growth are still lacking due to the ongoing problem of Japan's declining population, with a one percent decline in population contributing to a three percent decline in real GDP growth. Immigration alone cannot solve this issue, and sustainable growth will need to rely on more complex and subtle factors.

National Review: The Supreme Court Must Protect Christian Education from Progressive Ideologues
Faith Christian Academy, a private Colorado school run by Faith Bible Chapel, is asking the Supreme Court to clarify if the ministerial exception immunizes it from litigation in a lawsuit brought by a disgruntled former employee. The school asserts that Tucker, a former chaplain at the school who accused Faith Christian students and parents of racism and “white privilege” and “systemic bias” during a chapel service, was terminated for insubordination. Tucker has filed a lawsuit claiming he was the victim of “racially discriminatory termination.” Faith Christian moved to dismiss Tucker’s lawsuit on ministerial-exception grounds, but the district court denied the motion and a three-judge merits panel dismissed Faith Christian’s Appeal.

National Review: ‘They Are Not Serious People’: On the Succession Finale
Succession's finale leaves no satisfying ending because every character was an unacceptable successor to Logan Roy. The show explores the psychological damage done by a parent who does not know how to love his children. Succession was a morality tale, using tragic characters to make a morally affirmative statement. The show blended in brilliant humor but did not cause ambiguity about the moral state of the characters. The Roy family was broken, and Succession never pretended otherwise; in the end, the children could not run the company because they were too incompetent.
Fox News: Singer slammed for 'cringey' criticism of Disney's Little Mermaid: 'Loud and wrong'
Singer Paloma Faith criticized Disney's live-action "The Little Mermaid" for teaching girls to give up their voices for men. Faith posted on Instagram, saying she didn't want her kids to learn it was okay "to give up your entire voice and your powers to love a man." Many social media users disputed Faith's understanding of the plot, as Ariel gives up her voice to become human, not just for a man. Some questioned whether Faith had seen the original film or allowed her kids to watch without knowing the plot.

Forbes: Will Jose Mourinho Stay At Roma Amid Europa League Final Defeat?
Roma lost the Europa League final to Sevilla in a tedious affair that saw 14 yellow cards and just 45% of the ball in play. Despite having better chances, Tammy Abraham and Andrea Belotti failed to score. With Roma's last two months of the season based around winning the Europa League and securing entry to the Champions League, not winning the trophy made the entire campaign feel like a failure. Mourinho had bet everything on winning the competition for a third time and had essentially discarded the league by early April. Mourinho's future at Roma is now uncertain due to the club's lack of funds and high debt, meaning the manager was unable to invest in the summer market as desired.
National Review: Think the Denver Nuggets Have Come a Long Way? You Have No Idea
In 1989, a weak ownership group of the Denver Nuggets was bought by a satellite company, and the team was struggling both on and off the court. However, the arrival of star players like Chris Jackson and Dikembe Mutombo helped stabilize the franchise, and by the turn of the century, the team was sold for a high price with the board resolving to stay out of the basketball business. The Nuggets continued to improve over the years, and in 2014, they drafted Nikola Jokic, who has become one of the greatest passers and shooters in the history of the game. Now, after 56 years of waiting, the Denver Nuggets are competing in the NBA championship series.
