A man in Massachusetts dies after receiving a genetically modified pig kidney transplant. Surgeons had predicted it would last at least two years. The hospital expressed condolences and stated there was no indication his death was due to the transplant.

The man, Richard Slayman, underwent the procedure in hopes of providing hope for others in need of transplants. The family thanked his doctors for extending his life with the xenotransplant, acknowledging their efforts gave them seven more weeks with him.
