The effectiveness of vaccine injury reporting and compensation systems in the US is being questioned after the introduction of COVID-19 vaccines. A House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing will be held on Feb. 15 to examine these systems and discuss potential improvements. More than 1.6 million adverse event reports have been submitted to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) regarding the COVID-19 vaccines, and the number of reports exceeded expectations, causing a backlog. There were also concerns about a potential link between the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines and cases of myocarditis, but an official alert was delayed to avoid panic.
