Fortnite OG is almost over
It’s a very odd situation and I’m not really sure what to make of it. Epic Games recently released Fortnite OG—a brand new season that’s taken players back to the original map with a rolling release of the game’s first Chapter worth of seasonal content. Old guns, locations, items and more have all come back to the game (though its new movement system and graphics have remained in place).
This has been a wildly popular trip down memory lane. The weekend after the release of Fortnite OG Epic boasted the highest player count the game has ever seen, with 44.7 million players hopping into the battle royale title that Saturday alone. That’s huge for a game that’s been out for six years and counting.
This season kicked off on November 3rd, but despite being the most popular season in years, it’s already about to end. On December 2nd the Big Bang / Eminem event brings Fortnite OG to a close, after just one month. This is particularly strange for a game that usually has 2.5 to 3 month long seasons.
The longest season ever—Chapter 2, Season 1—was 128 days long. The second longest (Chapter 2, Season 2) was 119 days long. The shortest season ever was the very first season of the entire game, at 50 days. Fortnite OG isn’t even 30 days. That means you have less than a full month to finish the entire Battle Pass, let alone enjoy the OG map, guns, items and so forth. It’s very bizarre!
Epic is promising “a new beginning for Fortnite” starting after the December 2nd live-event. Downtime will start that night and whatever they have in store for the next Chapter and Season lands this coming Sunday. That means you have just a handful of days to wrap up your Battle Pass and enjoy the OG map.
Good luck, young padawans. And have fun. We’ll probably never see this map again.
