Jeremiah Quinlan, dean of undergraduate admissions at Yale, told Bloomberg Wednesday that the policy is currently under consideration, with an announcement for the university’s upcoming plans expected in the coming weeks.

Quinlan previously hinted at a potential policy shift in an Oct. 24 episode of the Admissions Beat podcast, according to Bloomberg.

Bloomberg’s report did not indicate what academic class the proposed policy would begin with.

Yale did not immediately respond to Forbes’ requests for comment.

On Feb. 5, Dartmouth announced that its standardized testing requirement would be reinstated starting with the class of 2029. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology reinstated its policy on standardized testing scores in 2022.

Alongside more than a thousand other colleges and universities across the country, Yale stopped requiring applicants to submit SAT and ACT scores in June 2020 “in response to the disruptions” created by the Covid-19 pandemic. The New Haven, Connecticut-based university has since expanded the test-optional policy for the next several application cycles. MIT was the first notable university to reverse its test-optional policy, according to NBC News. In Dartmouth’s announcement of the policy change, it said the decision was based on an analysis of faculty research that indicated high school grades and such test scores “are the most reliable indicators for success at Dartmouth.”
