AT&T spokesperson Jim Kimberly told Forbes that “the carriers are working as quickly as possible to diagnose and resolve the issue.”

AT&T’s corporate account has been responding to posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday evening apologizing for the inconvenience and reiterating it is working to resolve the issue.

Just before 5:30 p.m. EDT, there had been about 3,090 user reports indicating problems with AT&T service on DownDetector, a number that had steadily risen since about 1 p.m.

Calls between AT&T customers and 911 service have not been interrupted, according to the company.

More than 90% of the reports on DownDetector were about mobile phone usage, while 5% reported issues with mobile internet and 4% with landline internet.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

This outage follows a major outage for the cellular network in February that lasted almost eight hours from around 4 a.m. ET to about 11:15 a.m. ET. More than 70,000 users were impacted by that outage, including many in Houston, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, San Antonio, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Miami, according to DownDetector, but it wasn’t exclusive to users in those regions. Initially, people were worried the outage was because of a cyberattack, but the company said days later that an initial review of the incident pointed to an internal error that caused the issue. To “recognize the frustration” customers experienced, those impacted received a $5 credit on their account, AT&T said, which is the “average cost of a full day of service.”
