Neymar was rejected by FC Barcelona.
FC Barcelona had two main reasons for rejecting Neymar when the Brazilian was recently offered to them, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Neymar first donned Blaugrana in 2013 when he joined from boyhood club Santos as part of a transfer later revealed to have cost €86.2 million ($94.5 million).
He was on his way to becoming a club legend as a key component in the MSN trident completed by Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, which won the treble under Luis Enrique in 2015, but then stunned the football world by moving on two years later.
This development was a result of Paris Saint-Germain activating his €222 million ($243 million) release clause. But in 2023, the Qatari-backed giants are looking to move the 31-year-old according to L'Equipe.
On the evening that Lionel Messi revealed his decision to join Inter Miami to Mundo Deportivo and SPORT, the second-mentioned Catalan daily newspaper immediately reported that Neymar had been offered to his former club and was prepared to reduce his salary to make a second spell at Camp Nou happen.
In the following days, head coach Xavi Hernandez told Gerard Romero that news of interest in Neymar was a "surprise".
"Look I appreciate Neymar as a person, as a player, as a friend. He’s a great player, but he’s not in our plans, no," the Catalan explained as per his former teammate.
Over in Qatar, beIN SPORTS' Khaled Waleed has constantly linked Neymar with a return to Barcelona with who will pay the bulk part of his wages the only alleged sticking point between president Joan Laporta and his PSG counterparts.
At Mundo Deportivo, though, they report that any talk of possibly taking Neymar back was swiftly shut down because of two reasons.
The first is because Neymar's potential arrival is economically "unviable" thanks to Barca's debt and Financial Fair Play issues, and the other came by way of concerns that the forward could be a bad influence in the locker room.
El Nacional previously reported that there were worries about Neymar's love of nightlife, and the club's money struggles are there for all to see.
Instead looking towards the future and not back at the past then, Barca have decided to invest in potential with the capture of Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense in a deal worth a total €61 million ($67 million) if certain targets are met.
Vitor Roque's signing could be announced later on Monday, with the youngster penning a deal until the end of the decade with a €1 billion ($1.095 billion) release clause which ensures that a repeat of the Neymar debacle, i.e. being snatched away by PSG, is highly unlikely to occur.
