“The torch has been passed to a new generation of leader who shares my grandfather’s energy, vision and optimism for our future—that leader is Vice President Kamala Harris,” Schlossberg said, calling Kennedy his “hero.”

The 31-year-old, who is serving as a Democratic delegate for New York, addressed the DNC amid his political and professional rise in recent months, including a Vogue gig and quirky social media presence.

Vogue in July named Schlossberg its 2024 political correspondent, pointing to his ability to “bring levity to a grave moment in American politics,” in part, via his TikTok and Instagram, on which he promotes his progressive politics and offers his young audience concise video explanations of complex topics, such as Supreme Court rulings and his uncle, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential run, which he opposes.

Schlossberg on Tuesday posted a series of photos from the Democratic National Convention to his Instagram account, including one of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., touching his cheek, an image reminiscent of a photo of a 17-year-old Pelosi standing next to then-Sen. John F. Kennedy.

Schlossberg, son of U.S. Ambassador to Australia Caroline Kennedy, returned to the DNC after speaking alongside his mother in recorded remarks at the 2020 DNC, when he drew comparisons between his grandfather and President Joe Biden.

Schlossberg said he feared “things will actually go badly in daily life if Trump wins,” he told Vogue in July, adding “People will lose their health care, voting rights will continue to be under attack, our elections will be way less safe, and we’re going to pull out of all our alliances.”

Former President Barack Obama will close out the second day of the convention as Tuesday’s keynote speaker, following speeches from former First Lady Michelle Obama and Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff.

The former president is scheduled to give his address in the 11 p.m. EDT hour.

Democrats kicked off their convention in Chicago on Monday with a surprise appearance from Vice President Kamala Harris and remarks from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Joe Biden. Speakers lauded Biden’s legacy, and he gave an emotional address in which he spoke briefly about his decision to bow out of the race, telling the crowd he loved being president but he loved his country more. Speakers routinely blasted former President Donald Trump, with multiple mentions of the Project 2025 blueprint for his second term drafted by his allies that has drawn widespread criticism for what Democrats call an “extreme” agenda. The convention concludes Thursday, when Harris will close out the convention in a speech accepting her party’s nomination.
