LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - SEPTEMBER 18: Davante Adams #17 of the Las Vegas Raiders celebrates a touchdown ... [+]
With a new year comes a new opportunity for several players to reach significant benchmarks in their careers.
Some accolades go to show where their early success has put them on a pace to finish their careers, while others look to check specific boxes that could solidify who they were as a player. And some of these totals may be thanks to the current league benchmarks in the NFL.
Regardless, milestones are milestones, and one player to look out for this season is Raiders receiver Davante Adams.
Off the top of your head, think of how many players have 100 receiving touchdowns in their careers. You’d probably be surprised at how short the list is.
Ten players in NFL history have reached triple-digits in receiving touchdowns, with Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Cris Carter, Marvin Harrison, Larry Fitzgerald, Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez, Tim Brown and Steve Largent making up the list.
But after this upcoming season, Adams could find himself with this legendary company.
Adams enters the season with 87 in his 9-year career, which is already good enough for 15th-most in NFL history. He would need 13 this season to reach the threshold, which is a number he’s passed 2 of the last 3 seasons.
Inglewood, CA, Sunday, September 11, 2022 - Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams (17) ... [+]
Despite spending his first year outside of Green Bay in 2022, he still reeled in a league-leading 14 touchdowns in Las Vegas, alongside 100 receptions and 1,516 yards.
So if he were to have a 13-touchdown season, it would be just the second time in NFL history that a player was able to get to 100 in their first 10 seasons, with Moss being the other one.
If Adams does not get to the benchmark this season however, or if he wishes to continue climbing these leaderboards, he may do it in a plethora of jerseys other than green and black.
After signing a 5-year, $140 million contract ahead of his first year in Vegas, he naturally deferred his significant cap hits until after his potential out in 2025.
So while the talent level will be worth it for any team, few teams may have the cap space to afford him, which could leave him in the position that several elite receivers have found themselves in recent history, going from organization to organization.
