At least 21 people were injured, including eight of them with “immediate life-threatening” injuries, when multiple shooters opened fire at the conclusion of the Kansas City Chiefs parade around 2 p.m. local time, officials said.

Video shared on social media shows one of the alleged shooters attempting to flee the scene and bystanders tackling a man with a gun, restraining him and removing the gun from him until police arrive at the scene.

Of those injured, at least 11 of them were children between the ages of 6 and 15, authorities said.

Three suspects were detained, but their identity will not be revealed until they are charged, officials said at a press conference Wednesday.

On Thursday, President Joe Biden called on congress to act to ban assault weapons, limit high-capacity magazines and strengthen background checks and asked “how many more families need to be torn apart?”

"My wife and daughter saw the shooter come out ... she said she saw some lady pulling him back and people had started backing up and then he pulled it out and started spinning and shooting in a circle,” Jacob Gooch, a fan in attendance at Wednesday’s parade, told CBS of the shooting.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear. Three law enforcement officials briefed on the incident told NBC News the shooting does not appear to be terrorism-related.

In the hours since the shooting, Kansas City players have shared their stories from the shooting. Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Trey Smith told Good Morning America he and a teammate hid in a closet along with 20 other people as the events unfolded. Smith said he saw a little kid as he was seeking shelter and “grabbed him and yanked him up and said, ‘You’re hoping in here with me, buddy.” To calm the boy down, Smith said he began distracting him with talk of wrestling.

1 million. That’s the estimated number of people who gathered for Wednesday’s parade.
