As news continues to break regarding the ongoing developments and exodus of Jadon Sancho at Manchester United, fans are beginning to wonder if this is the beginning of the end for the former England international.

The current stance from Erik Ten Hag has been to isolate Sancho from the first team and academy teams, maintaining a barrier between them and him, and forcing him to train on his own until an apology is forthcoming.

Sancho stands by the belief that he is in the right and continues to ignore Ten Hag’s request. There have been multiple reports surfacing of Sancho turning up to training, on his own, late in the past week, which will not have helped smooth relations.

Fans are beginning to become restless with what is going on at the club. From a never-ending saga of ownership, to three players (Mason Greenwood, Antony and now Sancho) being removed from the squad for disciplinary reasons. It is a far cry of how the club was governed under Sir Alex Ferguson’s stewardship.

The English winger, who was signed in the summer of 2021 for £80 million, has seldom lit up Old Trafford. In his two seasons he has spent at the club, he has 18 goal involvements across 82 appearances throughout all competitions.

It is a complete difference in output levels to when he was at the top of his game at Borussia Dortmund in Germany, where he would routinely return as many goal involvements as appearances throughout their campaigns.

Sancho was also allowed time off pre-and-post 2022 World Cup, citing mental health reasons. Ten Hag connected him with his trusted, private coaches he knows in the Netherlands, and gave him the time and space needed to come back with clarity of mind.

And while the initial period of Sancho’s return looked promising, scoring on his first game back against Leeds United, his performances dwindled towards the end of the season and he was unable to sustain the bright sparks shown over a full 90 minutes.

However, fans were willing to park last season, and the season before that, for reasons out of his control – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being sacked and suffering with mental health issues – and permit him the time needed across pre-season to get up to speed and provide the threat they know he is capable of.

But, yet again, the fans feel let down by Sancho, who has taken such a public stance against Ten Hag and the club. There is one thing emotions getting the better of a player and that player quickly reverting, but Sancho has made it very clear he intends to stand by his initial decision and dispute the manager’s actions.

Unless there is a cease fire in the coming weeks, it looks unreservedly inevitable that Manchester United will look to offload Sancho in the January market – most likely for a loss on what they paid for him.

There is so much promise with Sancho and talent that is plain to see, but Manchester United cannot nurse players and deliver for them when they fail to do the basics for themselves. Ten Hag will rightly feel let down by the former England international, as well as the fans, who have stood by him up until now.
