The woman, who lives in the Ukrainian city of Ochakiv and is not being named, was primarily attempting to determine Zelenskyy’s tentative itinerary during his visit to the Mykolaiv region, the SSU said.
The informant was also working to identify the location of electronic warfare systems and ammunition depots that Russia planned to target in an upcoming airstrike.
The SSU said it caught the woman “red-handed” trying to pass on the intelligence to Russian officials before the plot progressed and it has now implemented “additional security measures.”
The woman is a former saleswoman in a military shop, and she allegedly used her connections from that career in an attempt to gather information, according to the security agency.
She also allegedly drove through the targeted area, taking photos and videos of Ukrainian facilities.
There have been several attempts on Zelenskyy’s life since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. In the first month of the war, Zeleskyy said in a televised address he believed Russia had made him “target number one” and his family “target number two.” In March, presidential adviser Mikhail Podolyak told the news organization Ukrainian Pravda that Ukraine’s intelligence community believes the president has survived over a dozen assassination attempts since the war began.
12 years. That’s the maximum prison sentence this woman could receive, according to the SSU, which said she is under suspicion of unauthorized dissemination of information on shipment, transfer of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, transfer or deployment of the AFU.
