U2, The Beatles And The Rolling Stones all have a lot in common. They’re Grammy winners, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, and, of course, legends in their own right. Now, the three beloved bands are all charting new hits together decades after they first rose to prominence in a rare showing of support for older favorites.

The trio of rock bands all claim a top 10 hit each on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart this week. The ranking tracks the most successful songs at alternative radio stations across the U.S. that cater to more mature audiences. The tally is often dominated by newer, younger rock bands, but there is clearly space for older names as well.

After ruling the Adult Alternative Airplay chart with their latest single “Atomic City,” U2 steps away from the spotlight this week. The band’s current song dips from No. 1 to No. 2, making way for the latest from Black Pumas, “More Than a Love Song.” “Atomic City” was released as a standalone track from U2 to promote their Las Vegas residency at the Sphere.

Up to a new high of No. 3 is “Now and Then” by The Beatles. The tune became the band’s first top 10 last week when it debuted at No. 9. Now it’s making a play for the highest reaches of the tally, and it could continue to climb in the coming weeks.

The Rolling Stones claim the lowest-ranking single among the three legendary bands inside the top 10 this week. The group’s “Angry” falls from No. 6, it’s high point, to No. 7 on this frame’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart.

It’s impressive for any band that has been around as long as these three have to manage to score not only a Billboard chart hit, but a new radio win. It’s not necessarily unheard of, but uncommon for groups that have been working for decades to continue producing huge radio wins. The fact that all three of these names are doing so simultaneously is something few could have predicted for the year 2023.

A number of other longstanding acts that are still making music are present on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart as well, though not inside the top 10. Names like Foo Fighters, Green Day, Blur, and Peter Gabriel have all been creating rock music for decades and rank among the most beloved and successful in the genre, and they can all be found on the tally this frame. Perhaps they’re not as huge as The Beatles or U2, but it’s clear that this chart is a place for legends.
