Republican megadonor and billionaire Timothy Mellon donated $25 million to a super PAC backing Donald Trump in September, according to Federal Election Commission filings made on Sunday, making him the biggest financial backer of the former president’s campaign—even ahead of billionaires like Miriam Adelson and Elon Musk.

Mellon donated $25 million to the pro-Trump Make America Great Again Inc., on September 17—just two days after the second assassination attempt against the former president—FEC filings showed.
In May, Mellon donated $50 million to MAGA Inc. on the same day Trump was convicted on 34 felony charges in the New York hush-money case.
Two months later, Mellon donated $50 million more to the PAC just a day after the first assassination attempt against Trump.
Since the start of this year, the reclusive billionaire has donated $140 million to the pro-Trump PAC.
Mellon’s contribution made up a large portion of the roughly $40 million raised by MAGA Inc. in September.
Linda McMahon—the wife of WWE founder Vince McMahon and former head of the Small Business Administration—also donated $5 million to the PAC.

According to our estimates, the Mellon family’s net worth is $14.1 billion. Mellon is the heir to one of the oldest continuing fortunes in American history, dating back to 1841. Timothy’s grandfather Andrew was a turn-of-the-century venture capitalist, investing in companies that became Alcoa and Gulf Oil. Andrew Mellon served as the U.S. Treasury Secretary from 1921 to 1932.
Mellon has donated $25 million in total to the American Values 2024 PAC, which backed Robert F. Kennedy’s run for President. After donating to Kennedy’s Democratic primary campaign last year, Mellon praised him as the “one candidate who can unite the country and root out corruption and that he’s the one Democrat who can win in the general election.”
