


President Donald Trump said in his address to Congress Tuesday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is willing to sign a mineral deal with the U.S., striking a more conciliatory tone just days after the deal stalled over a fiery Oval Office argument between Zelenskyy and Trump—who has pushed Ukraine to seek a peace deal with Russia.

Trump said he received a letter from Zelenskyy on Tuesday indicating he was ready to again negotiate and sign the deal that would provide the U.S. with access to Ukrainian minerals, as backpay for billions of dollars in U.S. military aid sent to Ukraine in the last three years since Russia invaded the country.
Zelenskyy made similar comments in a tweet earlier Tuesday in which he called the Oval Office blowup “regrettable” and said Ukraine is ready to sign the mineral deal.
Trump noted the U.S. has continued speaking with Russia about an end to the war, saying his administration has had “serious discussions with Russia and have received strong signals that they are ready for peace.”
