Trump said “probably” when asked by a reporter on Thursday whether he would be willing to extend the 75-day deadline he implemented via executive order in January, adding, “we have a lot of interest in TikTok . . . so hopefully China will approve of the deal.”
TikTok went dark for about 12 hours on Jan. 19, the day before the deadline Congress set for ByteDance to find a buyer—but the app was restored after Trump vowed to extend the deadline.
The law only allows Trump to extend the deadline for 90 days, however, and only if there’s evidence ByteDance is working toward a sale.
