Prosecutors asked Merchan to hold Trump in contempt for a series of disparaging statements he made about a prospective witness, his former lawyer Michael Cohen, and what Trump claimed was a “mostly all democrat” jury.
The judge determined his comments on April 22 about the jury “not only called into question the integrity, and therefore the legitimacy of the proceedings, but again raised the specter of fear for the safety of the jurors and of their loved ones,” Merchan said, according to the Associated Press.
