Former President Donald Trump said on Saturday he is not considering former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley as his 2024 running mate, appearing to deny an Axios report indicating the former South Carolina governor had been “under active consideration” by his campaign.
Former President Donald Trump said he is not considering Nikki Haley as a running mate.
Trump made the statement in a post on Truth Social, adding he “wish[es] her well!”
Axios had reported Saturday morning that Haley was in the running to be on Trump’s presidential ticket, citing anonymous sources familiar with the Trump campaign who made the claim that Haley would boost Trump’s popularity with college-educated Republicans and help Trump overcome a funding deficit to President Joe Biden.
Haley, who suspended her campaign in March, had posed the biggest challenge to Trump in the Republican primary, though even as a once-crowded field of GOP candidates narrowed down, Haley never chipped away Trump’s substantial lead in polling.
Haley collected only 97 delegates in GOP primaries, compared to Trump’s 2,037.
