Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce apologized Wednesday morning for his Super Bowl sideline confrontation with his head coach Andy Reid, calling his behavior “unacceptable,” after an estimated 123 million people watched Kelce scream on the sidelines during the first half of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win on Sunday.

Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion and nine-time Pro Bowl selection with the Chiefs, apologized in an episode of his “New Heights” podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.

Jason Kelce brought up the incident, which occurred in the second quarter of the Chiefs’ dramatic 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers, telling the younger Kelce he “crossed the line” by accosting Reid, the Chiefs’ 65-year-old coach fresh off his third Super Bowl win with the team.

The Chiefs’ tight end agreed that he crossed a line, saying he “can’t get that fired up to that point where I’m bumping coach and it’s getting him off balance and stuff,” adding the incident “came in a moment where we weren’t playing very well” and that “emotions get away from me.”

The Super Bowl sideline blowout—which Kelce said both he and Reid were able to “chuckle” about later—came as the Chiefs’ offensive woes against a formidable 49ers defense kept them to only 3 points in the first half, with Chiefs’ running back Isiah Pacheco fumbling in the red zone.

123.4 million. That’s how many people tuned into the Super Bowl Sunday night across CBS, Nickelodeon and Paramount+, making the big game the most-watched Super Bowl on record, according to data from CBS Sports. That viewership record blows last year’s Super Bowl out of the water, when 115.1 million people watched the Eagles take on the Chiefs.

Despite some early struggles, the Chiefs defeated the 49ers in overtime, leading Kelce to lead his team in celebration—and embrace on-field with pop star Taylor Swift, whose relationship with Kelce has dominated headlines for months.

We estimate Swift’s net worth at approximately $1.1 billion. Swift crossed the coveted billionaire threshold last October, largely thanks to her massiver earnings from her worldwide Eras tour, making her the first musician to become a billionaire solely off her music catalog and performances.
