Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Friday afternoon that a “tour bus with multiple passengers” rolled over between Lake George and Warrensburg, and that state police and the Department of Transportation were onsite “performing rescue operations.”
Officials did not immediately release the number of injuries or extent of the injuries, though CBS reported at least 22 were injured with some airlifted out of the area.
Forbes has contacted state police for more information.
“I join New Yorkers in praying for all involved in this horrific incident and am grateful for the heroic efforts of our first responders,” Hochul said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
In September, another New York bus crash made headlines when two teachers died and multiple students were injured after it flipped into a ravine while carrying students from Farmingdale on Long Island to a band camp in Pennsylvania along Interstate 84.
The incident comes as the state is preparing for a snow storm this weekend that could impact travel throughout parts of the state. A winter storm watch is in effect for the Lake George area with accumulations of 5 to 10 inches possible, according to the National Weather Service, which warns that “travel could be very difficult” during the storm.
