A series of damaging tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma on Saturday night and Sunday morning, including one in the town of Sulphur, one near Lake Murray and two along Oklahoma Highway 9 near Norman.

At least two people were killed in the town of Holdenville, Hughes County EMS confirmed on social media, who were only identified as one adult and one minor.

At least four people were injured in Hughes County as officials still work to assess the damage and injuries in other parts of the state.

Oklahoma’s Office of Emergency Management reported damage to businesses, homes and roadways, and Gov. Kevin Stitt declared a state of emergency on Sunday morning.

Other parts of Oklahoma reported flash floods, hail and downed power lines, and approximately 34,000 customers were still without power across the state on Sunday morning, according to poweroutage.us.

Highway 9 and the northbound lanes of Interstate-35 were both closed due to storm damage, and the Love County Sheriff’s Office confirmed live power lines were blocking the highway near Marietta.

A tornado moves through the Great Plains near Omaha.

Associated Press

The latest round of tornadoes comes only one day after another round of tornadoes touched down in the Midwest and Great Plains on Friday night into Saturday morning. Over 100 tornadoes spawned across the central U.S. during a series of thunderstorms, causing serious damage in Nebraska and Iowa. In Omaha, a tornado tore through neighborhoods and damaged about 150 buildings, the Omaha Police Department said, but caused only minor injuries and no deaths. The National Weather Service later confirmed the Omaha tornado was an EF-3, which can sustain wind speeds between 136 and 150 mph.
