ember for a Day was founded about 3 ½ years ago as a fundraising vehicle that offers golfers the opportunity to play bucket-list private and resort courses.
Since its inception, the platform has raised almost $6 million for a variety of charities and organizations by auctioning off unique golf getaways, rare stay-and-play opportunities, and rounds at about 80% of the Top 100 courses in the U.S.
So, what are the highest-grossing rounds in Member for a Day’s relatively short history? Here’s a look:
$50,000 – Bandon Dunes Golf Resort (Oregon)
This VIP experience for 8 to one of the game’s premier golf resorts was organized by David McLay-Kidd, the architect of the original course at Bandon Dunes, and his wife, Tara. The package included lodging, meals, rounds at all five courses, caddie fees and a chance to connect with McLay-Kidd, who at the age of 26 had been tabbed by Bandon Dunes founder Mike Keiser to build the property’s first links layout along the Oregon coast. The charitable beneficiary was Aproquen, a non-profit organization that helps treat children in Nicaragua with severe burns.
$25,000 – Grove XXIII (Florida)
A round for three (and a member) at Michael Jordan’s private club in South Florida proved a big draw, and fundraiser, for the First Tee of Greater Baltimore. In total, Member for a Day has helped raise more than $200,000 for the chapter since 2021.
$25,000 – Secession Golf Club (South Carolina)
This package included unlimited golf for six players over three days at one of the top private clubs along the South Carolina coast. First Tee of Greater St. Louis was the beneficiary, while the winning bidder also received private air transportation to and from the club, two nights of on-property accommodations and a low country oyster roast and cocktails on the clubhouse patio.
$22,750 – Alotian Golf Club (Arkansas)
Two friends whose fathers were battling ALS helped put together a Member for a Day fundraiser for the ALS Association that raised more than $140,000 in a week. The highlight of the auction was a round at the uber-private Alotian Club, which was founded by billionaire Warren Stephens and modeled after Augusta National, where he is a member and his father was the chairman from 1991-98.
$18,000 – Fishers Island Club (New York)
It’s safe to say a round at exclusive Fishers Island is one of the most memorable experiences in golf, requiring guests to arrive to the small island in the tip of Long Island Sound by ferry, boat or small plane. The course itself is ranked among the Top 10 in the country and the Metropolitan Golf Association was the charitable beneficiary of this bid for three players (and a member).

$17,600 – Biltmore Forest Country Club (North Carolina)
Member for a Day has raised well over $500,000 for Coaches vs Cancer since 2020, with an annual auction that offers the opportunity to tee it up with some of the best college basketball coaches in the nation. So far, the highest-grossing round has been for a threesome to join former University of North Carolina coach Roy Williams at this private club in Asheville.
$16,500 – Friar’s Head (New York)
An auction for The Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation included rounds with Rose Bowl legends such as former University of Texas quarterback Vince Young. But it was a stay-and-play opportunity for four at Friar’s Head on the north shore of Long Island that raised the most money, offering a chance to experience a course designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw that’s ranked as one of the top modern courses in the country.
Ray Bourque, who holds records for most career goals, assists and points by an NHL defenseman, ... [+]
$15,000 – The Country Club (Massachusetts)
Getting a chance to play The Country Club, site of the 2022 U.S. Open, is special, but getting to play it alongside a Boston sports legend and Hockey Hall of Famer in Ray Bourque made for a once-in-a-lifetime round for one lucky group. Member for a Day has raised almost $160,000 for the Bourque Family Foundation since 2021.
$13,600 – Sleepy Hollow Golf Club (New York)
Author Tom Coyne reached out to Member for a Day to do an auction for the JW Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust as part of the launch of his book entitled “A Course Called America.” The auction raised over $108,000, with the highlight being a round at Sleepy Hollow in which actor Bill Murray, Carl Spackler himself, rounded out the foursome.
Actor Bill Murray was part of the Member for a Day golf experience at Sleepy Hollow.
$12,250 – Shinnecock Hills Golf Club (New York)
In 2018, First Tee of Savannah, Georgia, shuttered its doors because of a lack of funding. The organization is flourishing today, in part because of more than $425,000 raised through three Member for a Day auctions. The biggest-ticket item was this round for three (with member) at one of the nation’s most venerable golf clubs and a five-time host site of the U.S. Open.
$12,110 – Isleworth Golf & Country Club (Florida)
While this is No. 11 on the list, an opportunity for three players to join baseball star Ken Griffey Jr. for a round at this private Central Florida club almost pushed into the Top 10. The round benefitted the MAAC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer), which is dedicated to funding childhood cancer and related blood disorder research.
