Several cars in the rear of the motorcade crashed around 2 p.m. EDT on Interstate 794 as Walz was on his way to a Labor Day event in Milwaukee.

The vehicle carrying Walz and Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Wisc., were not involved in the crash, according to a reporter traveling in one of the press vans following the vice presidential candidate.

Passengers in the press van were “violently thrown forward” as it was hit from behind and collided into the van in front of it.

One person in the press van appeared to have broken their arm and was treated by medics at the scene, the report said, while several others had scrapes and bruises.

Walz and Moore were en route to the Milwaukee Labor Council’s annual Laborfest Monday when the crash occurred. Walz was scheduled to deliver remarks to union members around 3 p.m. EDT. A day earlier, he attended a fair in his home state alongside his daughter and wife. Harris, meanwhile, is scheduled to campaign with President Joe Biden in Pittsburgh Monday, marking their first joint appearance since Biden’s exit from the race.

Monday’s incident with Walz’s motorcade marks at least the second time this campaign season that a candidate was involved in a crash. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ motorcade was also involved in a crash in Tennessee in July last year, but he was not injured.
