It was a night of dynamic performances and surprise wins that saw Chris Stapleton take home the biggest award of the night: ACM Entertainer of the Year. Stapleton clearly had no idea he might win.
“Whoa, I’m shocked,” he said as he took the stage to accept the award. “By any imaginable metric, I don’t deserve this, but thank you.”
Lainey Wilson and HARDY were two of the evening’s other big winners with four awards each. Cole Swindell was next in line with three.
Wilson won Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Music Event of the Year, and Visual Media of the Year. In accepting the award for Female Artist, she thanked those who’d supported her and noted that she and the women nominated in this category had worked hard and made a lot of sacrifices to get to where they are today. She went on to say, “For the little girls watching this, this right here stands for hard work. If you’re gonna be a dreamer, you’d better be a doer.”

This year’s Male Artist of the Year went to Morgan Wallen, but Morgan couldn’t attend the ceremony as he’s under doctors’ orders to rest his vocal cords.
Country superstars Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks co-hosted this year’s show, broadcast from Frist, Texas. They struck a nice balance between celebrating today’s young artists and honoring the country legends who paved the way before them. The two did a quick on-air FaceTime visit with Willie Nelson to mark his recent 90th birthday. And they paid tribute to Loretta Lynn and Naomi Judd, who both passed away last year. Parton touched on her friendship with each, then spontaneously sang a few lines of “Precious Memories.”

And then the show wrapped up with Dolly Parton premiering the first song from her upcoming rock and roll album. Garth Brooks did the introduction.
“She’s not only in the Country Music Hall of Fame, she was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She originally asked them not to consider her because she felt she hadn’t earned it. Then Dolly did what only Dolly would do. She went in and recorded her first rock album that is called, of course, Rockstar.”
Brooks went on to say her song “World on Fire” is a powerful anthem, “just when our world could really use one.”
Parton ended the show with a riveting performance, dancers and all, and then she and Brooks bid everyone good night.
