Thailand’s Constitutional Court removed Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from her post for ethical standard violation after just one year in office, fueling political uncertainty of the Southeast Asia nation.

The court found that the comments she made criticizing a Thai army commander during a call in June with former Cambodian leader Hun Sen (a recording of which was leaked to the media) violated ethical standards and undermined the Prime Minister’s office. Paetongtarn—the youngest daughter of influential former premier Thaksin Shinawatra—is the third member of the Shinawatra family to be booted out before finishing a term.

The dismissal of Paetongtarn—who has been suspended from office since July 1—is not a huge surprise and has been well-anticipated by market participants. She is the fifth Prime Minister linked to Thaksin to be ejected from office by the Constitutional Court over the past two decades.

“The next big question is who will become the next Prime Minister and what the new cabinet will look like,” said Piriyapon Kongvanich, investment strategist at Bualuang Securities in Bangkok. “There should be better clarity on this matter within this weekend.”

The benchmark Thai stock index fell 1.1% to close at 1,236.61. The baht slipped 0.1% against the greenback. Piriyapon said concerns over political uncertainties would continue to weigh on investor sentiment.
