The Crown Prosecution Service said in a statement Wednesday it brought 21 charges against the brothers, 10 of which are for Andrew Tate concerning three alleged victims, while Tristan Tate faces 11 charges concerning one alleged victim.
Andrew Tate’s charges include rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking and controlling prostitution for gain, while Tristan Tate is charged with rape, actual bodily harm and human trafficking.
British authorities investigating the Tate brothers issued a European arrest warrant in 2024 for charges relating to “sexual aggression” that allegedly occurred between 2012 and 2015, though Wednesday is the first time U.K. prosecutors confirmed the charges brought against them.
The Tates, dual American-British citizens who have lived in Romania in recent years, face pending civil and criminal investigations in all three countries, and they have denied all allegations made against them.
Andrew Tate faces a civil lawsuit in the United Kingdom, filed by four women who have accused him of physical and sexual abuse. A judge said last month Tate will likely stand trial in 2027. According to court documents, the case was filed by two women who say they were in romantic relationships with Tate, and two who say they worked for a webcam sex business he ran. One of the women alleged Tate pointed a gun in her face and said, “You're going to do as I say or there'll be hell to pay,” while another accused Tate of threatening to kill her, BBC reported. Two of the women accused Tate of rape, while all four accused him of choking them.
Both Tate brothers were charged by Romanian authorities with rape and human trafficking in 2023, where they remain under investigation. Prosecutors have accused them of recruiting and trafficking women, and last year, prosecutors began investigating new allegations that the trafficking involved minors. The Romanian case was initially set to go to trial, but a judge ruled in December it did not meet standards to go to trial and sent the case back to prosecutors. After their Romanian investigation concludes, the Tate brothers are set to be extradited to the United Kingdom. The Tate brothers are also under investigation in Florida, though the subject of the investigation is unclear. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said he opened an investigation into the Tates in March, after they briefly stayed in Florida once their Romanian-imposed travel ban was lifted, though Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., opposed their entry to the state. The Financial Times reported President Donald Trump’s administration helped the Tates, who have voiced support for the president, enter the country, though Trump told reporters he knows “nothing about that.” The Tates returned to Romania in March for a proceeding in their case. Last month, a court document filed by a lawyer representing anonymous defendants being sued by the Tate brothers for alleged defamation in Florida suggested the Tates are under a federal investigation by the Department of Justice, though the department did not respond to a Forbes request for comment about whether they are under investigation.
Andrew Tate, who rose to fame in the United Kingdom as a kickboxer and reality television contestant, has cultivated a large online following where he has courted controversy for espousing his self-described misogynistic views. Tate has more than 10 million followers on X, on which he frequently uses racial and homophobic slurs. Tate runs several online programs he bills as educational, though a BBC investigation found his “War Room” program allegedly teaches men to groom women. Last year, British police said online influencers, including Tate, have been linked to a wave of misogyny among young boys in a “quite terrifying” way.
