Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Update 5/10/23. See below.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is one of the best games released in 2023. I’m having a blast with the sequel to Fallen Order and the story of Cal Kestis and his fight against the Galactic Empire.
But one thing that continues to hold the game back from true greatness is its rather terrible performance. While I’ve definitely noticed the improvements that previous updates have brought to the game, there’s no doubt that Respawn and EA Games released this before it was done cooking.
Framerate drops, crashes, audio issues, save data corruption have plagued gamers’ experience with the game, which is a real shame given how truly great the story, combat and platforming mechanics are. It’s all fun and games until your game crashes and you have to replay 30 minutes and then it crashes again.
The latest patch—Patch 4—is being deployed for consoles today, Tuesday May 9th and “as soon as possible this week” on PC according to the game’s patch notes. The update includes many performance fixes with some specific fixes on PC for raytracing, traversal hitching and so forth. On PC and consoles, the update includes fixes to crashes, unbeatable boss glitches, save state errors and much more. Read the patch notes below to see everything included in the update, as well as upcoming fixes and known issues that Respawn is working on.
The latest patch (Patch 4) for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor arrives this week. Here’s our expected timeline for rolling out the patch:

Update
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s big Patch 4 is now live on PC as well. It deployed on consoles yesterday, but includes even more fixes for PC as you can see above.
Whether this patch will fix the many lingering issues plaguing this game remains to be seen, but I do have one suggestion for everyone on PC and console:
If you haven’t already, play Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order first. If you played that game at launch, play it again now. It’s a terrific game that looks and runs great (though it certainly had some issues of its own at launch). It’s especially great on PS5 and Xbox Series X compared to last-gen consoles.
Play through this game both for the story (since Survivor will make much more sense if you play the first game first!) and to buy some more time for the devs at Respawn to keep patching this game up until it’s good and ready. I’ve actually taken a break from my playthrough waiting for this current patch, so now I’ll dive back in and see just how much better it’s running (or not). But I’m in no huge rush to finish the game. I know it’s amazing. I know I love playing it. And I know it has enough performance issues to make me want to wait and experience it at its best.
But I will check out this patch and report back when I know more! And please do let me know how the game is running for you on Twitter or Facebook.
