Spain's women's soccer coach Jorge Vilda—who just led the team to World Cup victory—was fired on Tuesday by the Royal Spanish Football Federation, as the sport faces continued fallout after federation President Luis Rubiales kissed a Spanish player without consent.

RFEF announced that Vilda was ousted Tuesday morning in a tweet.
The organization did not give a reason for the decision, which was made by interim President Pedro Rocha, and praised Vilda’s performance since his 2015 hiring.
Vilda’s firing came shortly after RFEF released a statement apologizing for Rubiales’ "totally unacceptable behavior" and ensuring a “profound and immediate restructuring” of the program.
Vilda was considered an ally of Rubiales, Reuters reported, but had been facing criticism since last year when 15 players called for his resignation over “inadequate coaching methods” and having poorer conditions than the Spanish men’s team.
