O’Connor’s version of “Nothing Compares 2 U” rose to the 140th spot on Spotify’s Daily Top Songs Global chart for Wednesday—entering the list for the first time ever.

According to Spotify’s data, the song was streamed more than 1.2 million times on Wednesday.

Earlier on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police in London confirmed the 56-year-old was found in an unresponsive state at her residence in south London and was pronounced dead at the scene, BBC reported.

Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious, without offering any details about the cause of death.

Tributes for the Irish singer have poured in from across the world with Irish Prime Minister Leo Vadkar calling her talent “unmatched and beyond compare.”

Irish rock band The Cranberries, who lost their lead singer Dolores O'Riordan in 2018, paid tribute to their compatriot on Instagram saying: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of Sinead’s sudden passing. We have all been big fans for many years. Our thoughts are with her family. May she rest in peace.”

O’Connor, who was 56 at the time of her death, was known both for her music and her outspoken political views. Her version of “Nothing Compares 2 U” was released back in 1990 and rose to the top of music charts around the world, including the U.S. where it stayed there for four weeks and 11 weeks in Ireland. The song received multiple Grammy nominations and even won the MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year. The singer courted major controversy for her 1992 appearance on Saturday Night Live where she tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II while performing Bob Marley’s “War,” in protest of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. Last year, the singer made a series of posts on Twitter suggesting she wanted to take her own life after the death of her 17-year-old son, Shane, to suicide. The singer eventually decided to check herself into a hospital.
