


Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned Tuesday, multiple outlets reported Tuesday, after the attempted assassination of former President Trump at a rally led to criticism of security lapses and bipartisan calls for her to leave her role.

Cheatle informed her staff of her resignation over email and said she took “full responsibility for the security lapse” and decided to step down “with a heavy heart,” the Associated Press reported.
The Oversight Committee’s chair James Comer, R-Ky., and ranking member Jamie Raskin, D-Md., both called for Cheatle’s resignation, with Raskin saying Monday after Cheatle’s testimony she had “lost the confidence of Congress, at a very urgent and tender moment in the history of the country.”
