A total of 65 people from the nine states have fallen ill from the same salmonella strain, the CDC reported, noting 53 of those people are from Wisconsin and Illinois.

The outbreak has resulted in 24 hospitalizations, though no deaths have been reported by the CDC, which identified Milo's Poultry Farms as the supplier of the contaminated eggs.

The recalled eggs of all types, sizes and expiration dates were labeled with "Milo's Poultry Farms" or "Tony's Fresh Market” and were sold to grocery stores and restaurants.

Milo’s Poultry Farms’ production and distribution operations have been completely shut down and are undergoing testing and sanitation, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported.

The salmonella strain has sickened people in Wisconsin (42), Illinois (11), Minnesota (3), Michigan (2), Iowa (2), California (2), Utah (1), Colorado (1) and Virginia (1).

Salmonella usually causes diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting and stomach cramps, generally last four to seven days and can be particularly dangerous for children younger than five, adults 65 years or older and those with weakened immune systems—though most people recover from salmonella without treatment.

Salmonella is estimated to infect about 1.3 million people per year in the U.S., according to the CDC, alongside an estimated 26,500 hospitalizations and 420 deaths. The bacterial disease is not limited to eggs and can also be found in chicken, pork, fruits and vegetables. Cucumbers were recently linked to a salmonella outbreak just two weeks ago, sickening at least 449 people across 31 states. The outbreak also hospitalized about 125 people and is over following an FDA investigation.
