It’s been 15 years since Sade released a new album. There aren’t many hints that fans should expect anything from the group, and in lieu of something exciting to listen to once more, longtime lovers of the band — fronted by the woman who gave her name to the act — are continuing to focus their buying and streaming habits on one specific collection.

The Best of Sade rises from No. 2 to No. 1 on Billboard's Jazz Albums chart. This frame marks the first time that the compilation has run the show on the list of the most-consumed collections classified by the chart company and music magazine as jazz.

Sade earns its first No. 1 on the Jazz Albums tally this frame. Only three projects from the band have landed anywhere on the jazz-focused roster. Diamond Life climbed to No. 4 in July 2024, while Promise only rose as high as No. 19 during the same frame.

The Best of Sade lands at No. 1 in its thirtieth frame on the Jazz Albums list. Both Promise and Diamond Life have only managed a single turn on the tally—at least thus far.

The same greatest hits set is also in charge of another one of the three album-focused rankings published by Billboard that are specific to jazz. The Best of Sade is steady at No. 1 on the Contemporary Jazz Albums roster.

MORE FOR YOU

The same title has experienced very different runs on the two jazz albums charts in America. While it needed 30 weeks to finally hit No. 1 on the all-encompassing Jazz Albums roster, The Best of Sade debuted in first place on the Contemporary Jazz Albums list and has held there for the entirety of the 30 frames it has spent anywhere on the ranking.

Sade has performed better on the Contemporary Jazz Albums chart than on the more competitive Jazz Albums list. The group has seen two titles hit No. 1, as Diamond Life opened atop the list in July 2024, beating The Best of Sade by about a month. Promise climbed as high as No. 7, while Stronger Than Pride brought Sade to the roster for the first time in 1988. In its 11 weeks somewhere on the Contemporary Jazz Albums chart, that set has only risen to No. 21, but it was still an important early win for the R&B, jazz, and soul favorites.
