President Joe Biden on Wednesday will pardon former service members who were convicted under a law that banned gay sex, in a move that is likely to affect thousands of LGBTQI+ veterans.
President Joe Biden he intends to right a historic wrong with the clemency order.
In a White House statement released to multiple outlets, Biden said the move would right a “historic wrong” and offer clemency to “many former service members who were convicted simply for being themselves.”
The president said thousands of LGBTQI+ service members who were ejected from the military and court-martialed because of their sexual orientation or gender identity “have carried the burden of this great injustice for decades.”
This is a developing story.
