In a statement, Jackson Lee wrote her doctors have confirmed the diagnosis and she has started receiving treatment for “this disease that impacts tens of thousands of Americans every year.”
The congresswoman said she is confident her doctors have “developed the best possible plan to target my specific disease.”
She acknowledged “it is likely that I will be occasionally absent from Congress” but said her office will continue to provide vital services to her constituents.
Despite undergoing treatment, Jackson Lee said she remains committed to working with the congressional leadership and will be present for votes on key legislation.
